First time Setup

Step 1:

Log in to our resource center

Start by logging in to our Resource Center.

If you don't have an account please create one.

Step 2:

Download & Install Manus Core

Download and install the latest version of Manus Core Web Installer on our resource center.

SteamVR Trackers

Step 1:

A Strap Set

Put on a strap set compatible with SteamVR trackers.

This can be:
- Our own strap set and Manus Pro Trackers.
- A generic strap set with adapters for Manus Steam VR Pro Trackers.
- A generic strap set compatible with Steam VR.

Step 2:

Placing Trackers

Secure one tracker on your head and one on your waist. One on each foot and one on each hand.

If you are not wearing a VR head set you also need to place a strap and tracker on your head.

For higher fidelity you can place trackers on your upper arms (facing outwards) as well.

Step 3:

Assign Trackers

In the side panel click ‘Automatic Allocation’ to assign automatically or assign each tracker manually following the on-screen instructions.

Calibration

Step 1:

Select a user

In the Dashboard select a user from the 'Polygon' tab.

Step 2:

Click the Calibrate button

In the bottom section click on the 'Calibrate' button.

Step 3:

Select your hardware

Select the type of gloves and trackers you are using

Step 4:

Start Calibration

To define your body proportions and Tracker offsets start the Calibration process

Calibration steps

Depending on the hardware you have selected all or some of the following steps will be shown in the Manus software.

Mimic these poses closely for the best result.

Step 1:

Left Hand Flap

Grab your left wrist and bend it up and down

Step 2:

Left Hand Twist

Grab your left elbow and twist your hand left to right

Step 3:

Right Hand Flap

Grab your right wrist and bend it up and down

Step 4:

Right Hand Twist

Grab your right elbow and twist your hand left to right

Step 5:

Hands Together

Put your hands together and point them forward

Step 6:

Left Elbow

Grab your left elbow and stretch your left hand forward

This step only applies to the 8-piece strap set

Step 7:

Left Shoulder

Grab your left shoulder and stretch your left arm forward

This step only applies to the 8-piece strap set

Step 8:

Right Elbow

Grab your right elbow and stretch your right arm forward

This step only applies to the 8-piece strap set

Step 9:

Right Shoulder

Grab your right shoulder and stretch your right arm forward

This step only applies to the 8-piece strap set

Step 10:

T-Pose

Make a T by stretching your arms horizontally.
Put your feet together and point them forward.

Step 11:

Pelvis

Place your wrists on the edge of your pelvic bone

Step 12:

Left Foot

Put your left foot forward and twist it on its heel

Step 13:

Right Foot

Put your right foot forward and twist it on its heel

Step 14:

Neck Joint

Place your wrists below your ears and grab the back of your head

Step 15:

Head Top

Rest the palm of one of your hands on top of your head while keeping
your other hand next to your body

Unreal Engine Plugin

Installation

Step 1:

Log in to our Resource Center

Start by logging in to our Resource Center.

If you don't have an account please create one.

Step 2:

Download the Unreal Live Link Plugin

Download and install the latest version of the Unreal Live Link Plugin from the Manus Polygon Plugins section.

Step 3:

Place in Plugin Folder

Place the Manus plugin folder in the Unreal Plugin folder.


C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\UE_4.27\Engine\Plugins\

Step 4:

Activate and restart

Activate the plugin in Unreal and restart the program.

Step 5:

Activate Manus Tracking

Activate the plugin in Unreal.

Set up part 1

Step 1:

Place a Character in your scene

Go to your Meta Humans folder.
Drag the Character Blueprint into the scene

(loading all shaders can take a while)

Step 2:

Create Manus Component

From the right side panel add a Manus Component to your meta human

Step 3:

Create Manus Skeleton

Create a new asset called Manus Skeleton
Save the skeleton in the character folder

Step 4:

Set Motion Capture

Set Motion Capture to ‘Full Body With Polygon’

Step 5:

Enable/Disable Haptics

Depending on the gloves you are using you can enable or disable haptic controls

Step 6:

Set the Skeletal Mesh

By clicking the Manus Logo next to Manus Skeleton you can open the details for this skeleton.

From the dropdown list select your Skeletal Mesh

Step 7:

Enable Full Body Tracking

Enable ‘Used for Polygon Full Body Tracking’

Bone Mapping

Step 1:

Bone Mapping

Reset the values for the following bones;

Spine, Chest, Upper Chest, Neck and Head.

And everything from Left Shoulder down

Step 2:

Bone Mapping | Spine Bones

Manus only uses 3 spine bones so to divide them over the 5 bones in the Meta Human
you have to assign only Spine Bones #1, 3 and 5.

Step 3:

Bone Mapping | Neck Bones

Manus only uses one neck bone. Assign this to neck bone #2

Step 4:

Bone Mapping | Arms and hands

Assign all arms, hands and finger bones.

Set up part 2

Step 1:

Create Animation Blueprint

In Meta Humans Body Mesh Create an Animation Blueprint

Step 2:

Create Live Link Pose Node

Within the Animation Blueprint create a node with Manus Live Link Pose

Step 3:

Assign the skeleton

In the Manus Live Link Section assign the skeleton you created to the Manus Skeleton

Step 4:

Set Motion Capture

Set Motion Capture to Full Body with Polygon

Step 5:

Check the User Index

Make sure the Manus Dashboard User Index is the same as in the Manus Component

Step 6:

Press Compile

Step 7:

Set Animation Mode and Class

From the right side panel in the Animation section make sure the Animation Mode is set to Use Animation Blueprint and the Animation Class is set to the Animation Blueprint you just created

The next steps are for Meta Humans only

Step 8:

Select the Meta Human

Select your meta human from the viewport

Step 9:

Set the Body Animation Mode

From the right side panel in the character tree go to Body (Inhereted)

In the Animation section set the Animation Mode to Use Animation Blueprint

Step 10:

Set Blueprint in Anim Class

And for Anim Class set the same blueprint as in the Manus Component

Step 11:

Press Play

Select your meta human from the viewport

Unity Plugin

Installation

Step 1:

Log into our Resource Center

Start by logging in to our Resource Center.

If you don't have an account please create one.

Step 2:

Download the Unity Plugin

Download the latest version of the Unity Plugin for Manus Polygon

Step 3:

Open or create a Unity Project

Step 4:

Import both Manus Plugins

Import the Manus Core and Polygon plugins.

Set up

Step 1:

Drag a character into the scene

Step 2:

Add Polygon Component

Press ‘Add Component’ and select ‘Polygon’

Step 3:

Populate bones

Press ‘Populate Bones’

Step 4:

Visual check

Check if all bones are populated correctly and adjust if necessary

Step 5:

Check the Root Position

Make sure the Root bone is assigned correctly.

Step 6:

Press ‘Set up’

Step 7:

Set Model Height

Drag the ModelHeightControl box to the top of the model to set the model height

Step 8:

Press ‘Set Bind Pose’

Step 9:

Disable scaling

Switch off ‘Scale to User’ from the Animator section
